The call for our recovery specialist is generally for stressed projects which have descended into critical cost or schedule difficulty. Our Project recovery specialists are demanded internationally, more often by referred clients only. The implementation of a swift & acute recovery plan becomes necessary to ensure actual project completion, on budget, to schedule.

Projects under stress culminating in the need for a recovery specialist involve those which become increasingly being behind schedule or over budget, often symptoms or causes will include.  

  • Inadequate initial site setup and protocols
  • Unrealistic project schedule expectations set
  • Site management by “remote control” from a head office in another city or country
  • Lack of experience when evaluating tenders or negotiating supplier contracts 
  • Lack of experienced project planning and scheduling
  • Lack of disciplined project reporting
  • Lack of experienced site leadership and man management
  • Lack of experience managing contractors at site
  • Poor lines of delegated authority and communication
  • Projects run with a lack of commercial focus, key engineering personnel often being inexperienced commercial managers
  • Poor cost control management with inadequate financial reporting
  • Projects run with a lack of focus on the original design and tender costings. Design scope drift often allowed without consideration to the original budgets or completion schedule.
  • A lack of contractual policy and discipline with reconciling VO’s / EOT’s, or these not being captured in tandem with the main progress payments schedule.

Often misinterpreted, Project Recovery is not simply a muster of superior technical knowledge. It is actually the implementation of a recovery plan involving the highest levels of commercial, industry, site management and man management experience who can bring some commercial focus and discipline back into the equation, the objective being to get the project actually completed - on budget, to schedule.
